I'm sure you'll be able to access Gas Giant fun by purchasing an expansion pack.

I don't want to speculate... But I can assure you that the result will most likely disappoint you.

I would like to believe there would be something different about them in space stage. Hopefully they can hold more spice. It would be interesting to see how we would terraform Uranus.

If you are interested, PM me and I will explain. Thank you.

Likely it will be called the "Gasiouse pack" which lets you use gas giants. probably just 3 cities possible 5 because of their size and new tools you have to use to terraform them. Maby you would fill ballons with gas from a planet with 1 T higher then the giant which you place instead of animals. Edit: Also you would only be able to get them to t2. Would require you to take gases from a t3 world to make them t2. Only so much you can do when all you can change is what gases it's made up of which would probably give them a different colony to t level scale.

Edited with more detail. Too many unanswered questions in its previous form.

+1

I had the same thought the moment the game denied me access to the first gas giant I encountered. It will be interesting to see the floating gas creatures in a future expansion. Not to mention the floating cities..... Bring on Lando Callrissian's Cloud City from the plantet Bespin!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_City

There will of course have to be some major changes to the dynamics of the creature editor. It will be interesting to see how they (Maxis) incorporates the new "rules" for creatures that don't walk around on land and instead float or fly their whole lives.

Also, terriforming will be a new trick. A gas planet has no trees, shrubs or grasses. Maybe balancing the levels of Oxygen/Nitrogen/Carbon Dioxide will be the route to terriforming?

And what about transporting yourself about the planet from point A to point B? It's not like you should have to fly around the circumference of the planet anymore.... Just jet straight through the core of the gas planet to the other city on the other side... maybe? in such the same way, cities could vary in altitude.

What about a gas giant planet that is ENTIRELY spice gas? How valuable that planet would indeed be....

The giant gas planets may indeed add to the depth of the game. I hope Maxis does us good with future incorporation of the gas giants. It will be interesting to see how they pull it off.

lighter than air creatures have been theorized by some biologists. It's not entirely impossible.
