I'm quite curious, that's why I wanted to find out the "secrets of modding". Because of that, I downloaded the SporeMaster, the only tool, that I've found to unpack the package files of Spore.

, but having this tool, I decided to have a look in the other files of Spore as well, not only the ones, which are relevant for game mods.
There I found the pictures of the creations in the editorSaves.package. And because the building method takes so long, I simply experimented a bit more with that stuff.

Btw, during my experiments I also ran into a very strange file in the Locale folders, but only the German one (at least, I couldn't find out if there were files, that could be compared to this one, in the other languages

When you unpack {Spore's Installation path}\Spore\Data\Locale\de-de\NameGeneration.package and open the file {Sporemaster's Installation Path}\SporeMaster 2.0 beta\NameGeneration.package.unpacked\#0461227D\#BFAC798D.trigger you'll have the longest and meanest collection of German swearwords and offending phrases, that I've ever seen

So converting a JPG file into a PNG file and changing diverse options for the PNG file won't work for drag-and-drop into SPORE? Or will it?

Rantalia, could you make an adventure picture with this? This is the Great Jaggi from monster hunter tri.

Rantalia - just stumbled on this a few days ago and gave it a try - worked very well. Takes a little patience and planning, but not hard at all. Thanks for sharing the info.

The image file size is important. I found that I could push to 124 Kb, but I could only use one image that was of this quality; e.g. had to leave the other three image slots set on blank. At 130 Kb, the adventure just won't upload.

Making copies of files also proved important as you noted. A few times had to reload the safe files after Spore choked and dropped several adventures.

The .png has to be set to 24-bit images. Using 8-bit images to get size down will not work.

For files that are over the limit, it seems to help to adjust colors, brightness, and contrast to reduce detail a tad. Easy to do in Photoshop. That can bring the file down 10-20% and it is safe.

I tried to use a .png compression utility that removes unneeded chunks from the file. That resulted in lost adventures - expected data was missing and Spore promptly tossed up a hairball. Best to stay with Gimp (free Open Source) or Photoshop for editing.

hax are legal usually. It's not really that complex, just find where spore saves the image file and replace it with your own. People have been doing similar things to other games for decades.
