well, templates seem to be in style right now, so i figured I might as well jump on the band wagon

Therefore, I challenge you, dear reader, to create your own variant of Platyceph

Rise of the Platycephs Sporecast

Evolution

There are six main families of Platycephs: the common Platycephs (Protoplatyceph, Platyceph, anything ending in -ceph) are mostly omnivorous and insect-like, the Cargans (Marucarga, Titanocarga, Volcanicarga, anything ending in -carga) are generally large herbivores, and have horse-shoe shaped mouths, and the Ettens (Modetten, Graspetten, Cindetten, anything ending in -etten or -tten) carnivorous and generally hard-shelled, the Necaguis, (Aguis, Necaguis, Proguis, anything ending in "-guis") have doublejointed necks to give them evolutionary advantages (Necaguis were discovered by Dadltondmd), Torks, with high back and crests (ending in -tork, discovered by Avianwings), the Pinos, with 2 large back legs and for small grasping arms (ending in -pino, discovered by PirateNori, the floating Draks (ending in -drak, discovered by klawz). and the Sethas (endin in -setha), with graspers on the middle limbs, discovered by shasja

here is a neat little chart showing some of the evolution

of course there are other families, they just haven't been discovered yet! if you discover (create/think of) a type of platyceph that doesnt fall into those categories, please post them here!

Prototplatyceph

A primitive Platyceph, the Protoplatyceph is a scavenger that is easy prey for any predator **this one has some useful cell parts for you to use**

Platyceph

Platycephs are named for their flat head. They are highly adaptable creatures, and many varieties have been found

Marucarga

The majestic Marucarga is a large herbivore evolved from the Platyceph. They usually roam the plains in herds.

Cindetten

The Cindetten is a fierce predator variant of the Platyceph and is feared anywhere it is found. However, it is completely unable to see what it eats, which can lead to many embarrassing occasions

the type species for the Necaguis family, discovered by Dadltondmd
Necaguis

Necaguis is a platyceph that gave it's name to it's the necaguis family. although it is still a platyceph it has it's own family because of the double-jointed neck. it uses that long neck and buck-teeth to reach up high and slice the leafs off of tree-tops. it is also among the largest platycephs, almost as tall as titanocarga.

Type species for the tork family, discovered by Avianwings
Repletork

A possible subfamily of the necaguis and Cindetten, the "Repletork" is a carnvorous species that features a high back and a a crest of some kind, The Torks are a unique sight indeed.

Type species for the Pino family, discovered by PirateNori
Larpino

suffix -pino designates a 2 legged Platyceph with 4 small front legs used for slashing of grabbing. The back 2 legs need to be huge to propel the Pinos to great speeds.

Type species for the Drak family, discovered by klawz
Predrak

the sedrak (prefix:drak) species of platyceph float around without legs. the two rules are that they must have 6 limbs, the platyceph rules, and look like they can float (see my jets!). the predetor flies around, hunting other draks.

Type species for the Setha family, discovered by shasja
Paliasetha

the paliasetha is an intelliegent animal, part of the platyceph family. Their middle legs feet have almost turn into graspers. it has little or no skill in combat as it prefers to be friends.

Rules
1.) Platycephs are named because of their flat heat, so try to keep their heads sort of disk shaped. also, this is just a reminder for anyone making one: it does not have to be insect like in it's details at all... it can have fur, feathers, scales, anything, so long as the head is flat and rotates like a turret

2.) As a guideline, your platyceph should have 6 limbs total, be they arms, legs, tentacles, or whatever. however, if you feel like your platyceph would benefit from mere or less limbs, by all means, go right ahead

3.) Entries can be any kind of creature. animal, tribe, civ, space, it does not matter

4.) use the any of the above creations as a template, and remove any parts you need to to free up complexity (probably going to be alot of parts removed ) the first creation has cillia and flagella if you need to use those. alternatively, you can make your own template

5.) try to keep clipping to a minimum. I realize it's difficult, especially with the types of mouths on these. All i really dont want to see are limbs that go through each other, or poke through the head when they walk
that, and stuff that just floats in the air during part of an animation. Of course, if floating parts are part of the design on purpose, thats a different story

6.) please provide a link to your entry. entries without links will probably be passed over

7.) The only rules i have for naming your creation are as follows: A) any cargan( creatures ending in "-carga") must use the "Laardvark" mouth. B) any Etten (ending in "-etten" or "-tten") must be carnivorous. otherwise, name your creation whatever you want! just make sure to include "platyceph" and "joolander" in the tags section. (If you feel you need to stick to a naming convention, just end the name with "-ceph")

8.) Please provide a description for your creations. that is, if you can think of one

9.) Have fun

**TIPS**

HINT: to make the head behave as though it rotates on a turret, attach the mouth just above and to the back of the rear legs, then attach details to the moth to make the head

*all of the above have heads based on large mouth parts that have been rotated sideways

*mouths mounted at the back of the spine will animate better than those mounted at the front for this purpose

*experiment with parts to create cool combinations

HAPPY SPORING

I decided to give it a go, too. ^___^

The Jewelled Platyceph:

The Jewelled Platyceph are only native to the beaches close to the jewel encrusted cliffs of Radavon. Shortly after hatching, the baby Platyceph make an arduous trek to the cliffs and pick off bits of the crystalline growths and affix them to their shells. The few Platyceph that survive the round trip must then scavenge from the meals of the adults. As they grow, however, so do the crystals on their shells; and as the crystals absorb the minerals from the waters of the Platyceph, they turn a bright blue and glisten even more brightly than the cliffs, themselves. This is when the Jewelled Platyceph are in their prime. The jewels on their shells attract a species of avian which collects the jewels for its nest. When the avians swoop down to pick at the crystals, the Platyceph surge forth, dragging them down to tear them apart.

My contribution in two flavours, creature and space.
Not a large variation from the original Photoplatyceph, just attempted to make it a little more crab like in some respect (small feeder arms underneath, colouring, etc)
