1.0 MISCELLANEOUS

1.1 Complexity Chart by KitWarrior - Creature Creator (full version of Spore)
Please note the numbers in this chart are arbitrary. They only served to help me sort out the approximate order of complexity and do not represent an actual numerical value used by the game.

1.2 Color Chart by KitWarrior - for the visually impaired

1.3 Insporator by Aaarrrggg - for creature inspiration
Link: http://www.insporator.com/
Aaarrrggg's instructions:
"- Pick the categories you would like by using the + and – buttons
- Press ‘Inspire Me!’ to get a random creature ‘recipe’
- If you like a certain category suggestion you can lock it in place with the padlock button and then press “Inspire Me!” again to change the unlocked ones
Notes:
- I’m afraid it’s not infallible and will sometimes come up with similar or contradicting themes… sometimes even describing existing earth creatures. Just keep locking/clicking until you find a description that sparks your imagination.
- Don’t feel you need to have all 5 categories open, you can get some pretty good results but just mixing 2 animals. Have a play and see what categories work for you.
- If you have any suggestions for the fields please let me know. There are around 100 animals/features in there and 40 environments, but I’m sure there are loads more I haven’t thought of.
- If this proves popular I may extend it to sentient creatures and buildings. I’d say vehicles too but they’re a little harder to break down into categories"

2.0 CREATURE CREATOR

2.1 Invisible Limbs by Warutrid and MoofuJJ
(note: Only certain mouse wheels work. Mine doesn't! I use invisible limb creatures from other players, strip them down to just the spine and limbs, and then start over.)
YouTube video and guide by DinoZool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWAVp5cjvRg
"Make the spine as small as possible. Try to keep the spinal cord on top. Attach any limb to either end of the spine, then merge it together to form a single limb (once you know how it works, merging the limb is no longer required). Make it as thin as possible. Select the spine piece closest to the limb's joint and enlarge it to full size. (optional) Move the limb as far away from the spine you just enlarged. This can make things easier but isn't always required. Enlarge the limb's joint attached to the spine to full size. Now for the tricky part, select the spine you just enlarged and as quickly as possible shrink it down again. This may require some practice and a scroll wheel with high sensitivity. If you do it right you'll notice the connection between the limb and the joint getting smaller until it finally "disappears". Once you've gotten the limb to go invisible, slightly expand the spine again just enough to make the limb reappear. Now you can move the limb's position, attach the pieces you want and all that. Do NOT make the spine longer or shorter once the parts are invisible as this will cause the limb to reconnect and you'll have to do it all over again. When all the pieces are in place, you can shrink down the spine/joint to make in invisible again. Once you figure out how it works it quickly becomes easier to do more complicated things, like multiple invisible limbs across several sections."

2.2 Alt-click Floating Details (#1) by NovaLife
NOTICE: This technique does not seem to work with patch v1.01 nor v1.02.
Place details on a limb you will be keeping (hands and feet don't work). Position the limb where the detail is where you want it to float. Holding the Alt key, click on the detail once. Now move the limb and you should see that detail part duplicated and floating. If it doesn't work, try it from different camera angles and without the limb centered. While repositioning the limb, note that manipulating one side affects the position of the floating details while manipulating the other does not.

2.3 Limb Resizing Induced Floating Details (#2) by Kitwarrior
v1.02 verified
Place details on a small limb joint (hands and feet don't work). Move the joint outward and increase its size drastically. Keep doing this in various ways until you notice the details floating away from the joint. Put the joint where you want it and resize it. It takes some tinkering to get the floating positions and the limb position in a satisfactory arrangement.

2.4 Asymmetric Details (and floating details #3) by Thanren
v1.02 verified
Illustrated guide (animated gif) by Kitwarrior: http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/5731/asymmetry1bo5.gif
YouTube video tutorial by KitWarrior: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGEQIokI9wc
1. Attach a limb and connect the bases together. You may have to move the camera around several times to achieve all of these steps.
2. Connect the next joint. Connect as many as you want, but you must not connect the last joint at the end of the limb.
3. Attach a part(s) to the last connected joints. You should proceed along the separated limb section until the part becomes one. This is because the part will technically end up on that limb section. It is better to make all final adjustments to the part before placing it on the joint. Not all parts work for this (hands, feet, and other limbs most notably do not work).
4. Highlight the connected joint the part is on and grab it. You must grab the joint and not the added part.
5. Pull the joint apart.
6. You should either see (A) only one of the part you placed on the joint and it should stay connected to one limb for asymmetry or (B) only one of the part you placed on the joint and it should be floating and centered for a floating part. The undo button is useful for unsuccessful attempts. If this does not work after several tries from various camera angles, go back to step 3.
7. You can now move the limb around and make adjustments. Manipulate the side that has the solitary part to reposition it. Note that even a floating part is still associated with one side. Manipulate the opposite side to remove the connection in both cases and have an unattached floating part.
(advanced techniques: You can pull the limb apart from the base and sometimes still be successful. You can also place a part(s) on the joint connected to the body, pull it apart, and still be successful. You can reverse which side an asymmetrical part(s) is on by pulling a joint to the other side. In some cases you can still adjust the part that is asymmetrical/floating after establishing its final position (usually just its basic size).)

2.5 Asymmetric Hands and Feet by GrandPeep
v1.02 verified
YouTube video tutorial for hands by KitWarrior: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1emblvbp3U
YouTube video tutorial for feet by KitWarrior: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1F4PQxFSYo
Guide based on Mouthwash's version:
1: Choose a spot on the spine that is very narrow, but not THE narrowest it can be (one mouse wheel click larger will work).
2: Place a set of "junk" limbs on the side of the body at that spot and make sure the shoulder/hip joints do not merge into one.
3: Take the elbow/knee joint and pull it as far out to the sides as possible. You should reach an invisible wall.
4: Put the hand/foot you want on it. NOTICE: This step can no longer be done after step 5 with patch v1.02.
5: Enlarge the vertebrae at the spot where your limbs are attached. Do this moderately fast until you see one side has a red flash around the joints. Stop when you see this flash and one side's end limb will disappear. Note that Spore will prevent you from saving the creature at this point.
6: Take the single hand/foot and place it on your final arm/leg.
7: You must repeat this process from step 1 for the other side of your final arms/legs or it will not save.
8: Now you can move the limb. Note you will see one hand/foot stay in its original place. Resize a spine segment to get the limb to snap back to it.
9: Next you can resize the joint and muscle nearest the hands/feet independently.
10: You should have "junk" nubs left over. You must remove these nubs in order to save.
Examples from GrandPeep:

2.6 Asymmetric Limbs by GrandPeep
v1.02 verified
YouTube video tutorial by KitWarrior: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1IeKeGf4kM
4: Enlarge the vertebrae at the spot where your limbs are attached. Do this moderately fast until you see one side has a red flash around the joints. Stop when you see this flash and one side's end limb will disappear. Note that Spore will prevent you from saving the creature at this point.
5: Create your final (soon to be asymmetric) limb. Do all your work on the position and details of the limb now because you won't be able to later.
6: Attach this final limb onto the end of the "junk" limb which does not have the missing end section while holding the Ctrl key. It should now be asymmetric.
7: Detach it with the Ctrl key and place it back onto the body. Adjusting the limb after this step will cause the other side to reappear so if you need to modify it, press the undo button. However, note that you can still resize the joints without clicking on the limb and causing the symmetry to reappear.
8: You should have two "junk" nubs left over. You must remove these nubs in order to save.

2.7 Embedded Limbs by Bernini
v1.02 verified
Illustrated guide (animated gif) by Kitwarrior: http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/1989/berninitechkit1av6.gif
Follow these steps in order to get the first joint of a leg inside the body instead of on the surface of the body:
1. Place a leg on the spot where you want the limb to stick out from. It's best if it is located on the underside of the body. Line up the outer joints about where you want them to end up.
2. Place another limb just underneath where the first limb is connected to the body. It's best if the joint attached to the body on this second limb is small. Also hold the Ctrl key to remove excess limb sections from this second limb as you will only need the one section connected to the body.
3. Hold the Ctrl key again as you disconnect the first limb from the body and then immediately attach it to the extra "nub" of the second limb. Realign the joints to where you want them to end up. It's best if the joint that will appear outside the body (the third joint counting from the body) is almost directly below the connection to the body
4. Grab the body and raise it as high as it will go.
5. Grab the second joint (counting from the body) and raise it vertically as high as it will go. Also bring it in as close to the centerline as possible. It may be helpful to make the joint smaller as this will allow you to bring the joint in even closer to the centerline.
6. Grab the body and lower it. You should see the top joint slowly lower into the body. Usually you are also looking to see if the lower limbs cover up the remaining joint which now appears as a tiny bump on the body. It may be necessary to back up and realign the joints to get the best result. Please note that there is a stretching issue with the skin around the limb's connection with the body.

2.8 Tab Rotation Asymmetry by Kitwarrior
Sometimes when splitting centered details into two, the two sides end up facing two opposite directions. If you rotate them completely around with the tab key, they might straighten out. Sometimes they both end up facing the "wrong" way. This is most recognizable with wings since we can more readily discern a "proper" facing. Try centering wings and then splitting them. Then rotate them completely around (like a helicopter) and you may see one of them change their direction.

2.9 Spine Induced Asymmetric Details by Kitwarrior
(coming eventually)

3.0 VEHICLE CREATOR

3.1 Bilateral Floating Parts by KitWarrior
NOTICE: This does not seem to work as effectively after the patch.
Center a part which is not a Body or Cockpit. Split that part into two using the Tab key. Attach another part which is not a Body or Cockpit. Use the tab key again on the first part to rotate it once more. You should see the second part become detached. These are the steps that no longer work in v1.01: Find the side of the first part which the floating ones are attached to (they are only associated with one side). Now using that side of the first part, position the floating parts where you want them to end up. Next you manipulate the other side of the first part to hide it or just use it elsewhere. Moving that particular side of the first part should not affect the floating parts. If it does, try the other side or try another camera angle. Keep trying. You'll get it.

3.2 Asymmetric Floating Parts by Digi-P
WARNING: This does not seem to work at all after the patch and yet attempting it can still cause Spore to lock up.
1. Place the body in the middle and attach a detail part along the center.
2. Tab-key rotate the detail part like an X or a V depending on the part.
3. Attach some other detail part you want to float on that rotated detail part and rotate again. It will float now.
"4. If you want asymmetry, try to rotate until the floating part not rotate anymore. (Now it will fix in position.)" - (I haven't figured this step out - KitWarrior)
5. Remove one side of the first rotated detail part. Note that one side will remove the floating part while the other side will not. Now the floating parts will stay like that.
6. Attach parts to the floating parts. It will be asymmetric.

Note:
A. Beware that rotating too much may cause the game to freeze (it happened a few times to Digi-P and me).
B. You can remove the first body part, but three things will happen. First, once you save and reload, some parts will shift to the center line. Second, you can't do anything to the original floating parts or they will disappear. Third, using "Undo" can cause some parts to shift to the center line. You may still find this useful if you want to build asymmetric things and then deal with the parts that shift to the center.

Examples showing floating from Digi-P:
Examples hiding floating from Digi-P:

3.3 Asymmetric Parts by KitWarrior
WARNING: This does not seem to work at all after the patch and yet attempting it can still cause Spore to lock up.
(note: All three of these vehicle techniques actually work from the same series of principles.)
Center a part which inherently orientates itself asymmetrically such as walking legs or certain propellers. Tab-key rotate that part until it duplicates over itself (a 90 degree turn, although a few parts already place themselves doubled over). Attach a part which is not a Body or Cockpit. Split that new part into two using the Tab key. Manipulate its size and direction to its final form (soon you won't be able to adjust it without adverse effects). Find the side of the first part which the second ones are attached to (they are only associated with one side). Remove it. Optionally you can remove the Body or Cockpit the first part was attached to. You should be able to build off of the second parts asymmetrically now.

4.0 BUILDING CREATOR

4.1 Rotated Bodies and Roofs by FuzzballsJr
1. Place a Body (base) part.
2. Attach a Connector part.
3. Place a Body or Roof part on the Connector. A high camera angle from above helps.
4. Rotate the Connector to the desired angle.
5. Use the Ctrl key or the Shift key to move the Body or Roof away from the Connector.
6. Delete the Connector and very first Body part if desired.
7. Use the Ctrl key and Shift key to finalize the position of the rotated Body/Roof. Note that it is difficult to add Bodies and Roofs to an already rotated one so it's best to do that before step 4.
Example from FuzzballsJr:

~ - ~ - ~ - ~

I've gotten through 2.7 Embedded Limbs by Bernini with v1.02 and I'll come back soon to finish the rest up.

If you know of any techniques that are not based on the featured tools or are not intended results, please feel free to post and I may include it in the original post. Please note that there are intentional/featured floating techniques as well as some parts which inherently position themselves asymmetrically when positioned on the center. Those are not what this thread is about. Enjoy!

Wow, pretty nice to see all the techniques discovered through the CC's time before Spore's release now all being gathered into one post. I hope they all still work as I'm definately looknig forward to using a few of them again in-game if I can.

I never said I was perfect, only that I was better than you!

I will post how to do floating asymmetric glitch on vehicle editor (and spaceship editor).

1. Place the body and place some others module (I prefer those wings and detail part, don't sure about cockpit and body parts) in the middle.
2. TAB and rotate first (So it's go like X), then attach something that you want to float on that rotated module and rotate again. (Body and cockpit can't be place like that.)
3. It will float now.
4. If you want asymmetry, try to rotate until the floating part not rotate anymore. (Now it will fix in position.)
5. Remove the base module. (Now floating part will stay like that)
6. Attach anything to that floating parts. It will asymmetric.

Note.
1. If you remove base module. Don't do anything to floating parts or it will disappear.
2. Beware that rotate too much may cause the game to freeze. (It happen sometime to me.)
3. You can even remove all body part and that floating part will stay the same but if you save and reload, it will go to the center line. Also Ctrl-Z without body part can cause it to go to the center line. (But turn out to be useful if you want to build asymmetric things from the center.)

And this is my asymmetric work.

Found this when I try to attach weapon on Wings part on Spaceship Editor.

Hey, Kitwarrior. Should I post that rolling glitch in here? Rolling creature still work in Spore but Rolling limb doesn't work anymore.

If it works, go ahead and post it. If it no longer works, don't worry about it. ... I actually have no idea what glitch your talking about.
